Who we are- We talk about GIS, how to improve it, and how to build more efficient and effective programs for the counties where we do our work.We encourage the use of standards. By providing G.I.S. assistance back and forth to members within the organization we can reduce costs to build our county GIS programs. MCGISA is an organization designed for all counties to participate in whether they have dedicated G.I.S. staff, G.I.S. department or are beginning to use G.I.S. The Association members can be any individual from each of the counties such as a G.I.S. manager, county commissioner, employee using G.I.S. or another individual appointed by the county board to serve as their association representative. The goal is to have each county represented.

Where do we meet and how often– G.I.S. is scattered throughout the state with different degrees of success. Not all counties are created equal with regard to populations, budget or geography. By organizing MCGISA based on AMC regions, many counties will share similarities with regard to the fore mentioned factors. This will also accommodate reasonable driving distances for meetings. We recommend each district meet at least quarterly and then annually as an association. The annual meeting is coordinated with the MN GIS/LIS statewide conference.
Sharing ideas, resources and working together-The goal of the association using this regional approach is that counties with similar opportunities or challenges will be brought together on a regular basis to discuss coordinating efforts, sharing resources and be a part of guiding the growth of G.I.S. to fit the demographics and fiscal abilities for that particular region.

MCGISA serves as a mechanism to share information, resources, products and production to benefit members within each region and those regions will work together to help foster G.I.S. solutions for counties on a state level.
